“Shotgun Lovesongs” Author Visit 6:30 pm
“Shotgun Lovesongs” Author Visit
Sep 8 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Author of national bestseller “Shotgun Lovesongs” Nickolas Butler , from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, will visit Camp Jorn for a discussion, reading, and signing. BOOK DESCRIPTION: Hank, Leland, Kip and Ronny were all born and raised in the same Wisconsin town—Little Wing—and are now coming into their own (or not) as husbands and fathers. One of them never left, still farming the family’s land that’s been tilled for generations. Others did leave, went farther afield to make good, with varying degrees of success; as a rock star, commodities trader, rodeo stud. And seamlessly woven into their patchwork is Beth, whose presence among them—both then and now—fuels the kind of passion one comes to expect of lovesongs and rivalries. Seldom has the American heartland been so richly and accurately portrayed. Though the town may have changed, the one thing that hasn’t is the beauty of the Wisconsin farmland, the lure of which, in Nickolas Butler’s hands, emerges as a vibrant character in the story.Shotgun Lovesongs is that rare work of fiction that evokes a specific time and place yet movingly describes the universal human condition. It is, in short, a truly remarkable book—a novel that once read will never be forgotten. Sponsored by area libraries.

Meet the Author: Ellen Airgood “South of Superior”
Sep 29 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Meet the Author: Ellen Airgood "South of Superior" @ Presque Isle Community Library | Presque Isle | Wisconsin | United States
Ellen Airgood is author of “South of Superior” and will be visiting us at the Presque Isle Library for a discussion, reading, and signing. BOOK DESCRIPTION: When Madeline Stone walks away from her Chicago life and moves five hundred miles north to the coast of Lake Superior, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, she isn’t prepared for how much her life will change. Charged with caring for an aging family friend, Madeline finds herself in the middle of beautiful nowhere with Gladys and Arbutus, two octogenarian sisters – one sharp and stubborn, the other sweeter than sunshine. As she is drawn into the dramas of the small, tight-knit town, Madeline learns that it’s a place where times are tough and debts run deep, but where friendship, community, and compassion run deeper. A debut novel full of heart, South of Superior shows that there is a deep reward in caring for others, that one who is poor in pocket can be rich in many other ways, and that happiness often comes from the smallest gestures.
